From the slightly raised entrance, one steps into an enclosed circular space that opens toward a broad platform for rest and reflection.
Beneath the bamboo canopy, one can gaze into the distance, listen to nature’s symphony, breathe deeply, meditate, or stretch, immersed in the sheer force of a waterfall cascading head-on.
A wide-span bamboo structure captures the fivefold sensory experience of Basianshan.
The form is defined by a 12-meter arched canopy supported at two points, its perimeter framed in steel tubing and interwoven with 8 cm vertical Moso bamboo members in a cross-braced lattice to uphold the sweeping roof. The load is distributed through the bamboo lattice and steel pipes to the steel beams on either side, further dispersing the force to three steel columns per side, which connect to newly reinforced beam foundations. These in turn integrate seamlessly with the existing platform, preventing an over-concentration of structural stress and ensuring stability.
